Types of Releases

Type | Description |

Major Releases | Adequate number of new features to justify a Major Release. Included also resolution to selective customer found defects from the previous General Available released products. Test Criteria: Regression Test Automation for every versions New Features Testing Bugs Validation Heuristic Testing - Manual Risk, Impact and Priority Based Regression Testing Major Release is Generally Available for all customers. |
Maintenance Releases | There are enough customer found defects that have significant impact to justify a Maintenance Release. Occasionally included system enhancements. Test Criteria: (Typically 1.5 – 2 week) Regression Test Automation for every versions Bugs Validation * Heuristic Testing - Manual Risk, Impact and Priority Based Regression Testing Maintenance Release is Generally Available for all customers. |
Patch Releases | One or two customer found critical defects, security and/or performance issues that have significant impact to justify a Patch Release. Test Criteria: (Typically 3 days) Regression Test Automation for every versions Bugs Validation * Heuristic Testing - Manual Risk, Impact and Priority Based Regression Testing Patch Release is specific to a customer or customers who are impacted by the same defects. |
Experimental Releases | One or two customer found critical defects, security and/or performance issues that have significant impact to justify a Patch Release. An early release version for validation on customer site is called the Experimental Release. Test Criteria: (Typically 3-4 hours) Regression Test Automation for every versions Bugs Validation * Heuristic Testing - Manual Risk, Impact and Priority Based Regression Testing Experimental Release is specific for the impacted customer only. Very minimum testing. Experimental Release will be qualified as Patch Release once the version passes the Patch Release test criteria. |
