Backup and Maintenance
The database is a core element of the SmartIQ product. It is critical that the database is kept in good health. This comprises two (2) main operations:
- Database Backups – These allow you to recover to a known safe state in the event of an incident.
- Database Maintenance – This performs housekeeping tasks on the database to keep performance optimal.
Below are the recommended settings for a on-premise customer SmartIQ deployment. These are to be carried out by the customer's Database administrators (DBAs) team.
Ensure that the SmartIQ database performs the following regularly:
Type | Frequency | Data Retention |
---|---|---|
Full Backup | Weekly | Retain for at least 4 (four) weeks |
Differential Backup | Nightly | Retain for at least 4 (four) weeks |
Transaction Log Backup | Hourly | Retain for at least 7 (seven) days |
Index and Statistics Maintenance | Daily |
To do this, create scheduled jobs for the following:
Task/s | Frequency |
---|---|
Transaction log Backup | Every hour (30 minutes past each hour) |
Index and Statistics Maintenance Differential Backup | Every Sunday to Friday at about 03:00 |
Index and Statistics Maintenance Full Backup | Every Saturday at about 03:00 |
Additionally, apply the following recommended application Retention Settings:
- AUDIT_RETENTION - 365
- EVENT_RETENTION - 90
- CLEANUP_HOURS - 2
- DOWNLOADABLE_DOC_NUM - 0
- GENERATION_RETENTION - 365
- WORKFLOW_RETENTION - 365
Note
Generation Log (GENERATION_RETENTION), Audit Log (AUDIT_RETENTION), Event Log (EVENT_RETENTION) and Workflow (WORKFLOW_RETENTION) can also be configured from Manage > Settings > Retention.
